The Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) uses innovative technology in electronics and telecommunications to create a Smart Grid. A grid that can be remotely monitored and controlled, minimizing the downtime and reducing the need of direct labor to perform double visits for meter reading and bill collection and most importantly tracking the non-technical losses at any stage of the electricity distribution chain, and thus taking the first step into stopping any such violations.
NEUC is the first company to have its smart meters certified, validated, and approved.
Installing the Smart Metering system will have a major impact on the electricity sector in Lebanon. It will allow EDL to monitor and control the monthly "kwhr" (kilowatt x hour) consumption and limit the technical and non-technical losses within the grid. NEUC installed so far over 12,000 smart meters and the project is still in progress.
